Whom to Ask for Money During the Pandemic

The pandemic has hit many of us really hard.  Nonprofit revenues are generally down, and development directors everywhere are scratching their heads, trying to decide how to ask for donations during a recession.

But not all your for-profit donors have experienced a drop in revenue.  In fact, some industries are doing quite well during Covid-19.  Here is a list of potential benefactors who may be having a pretty good 2020, making them more eager and willing to support you, their favorite philanthropy.

  • Grocery Stores—we are cooking at home
  • Liquor Stores and Distributors—apparently, we are drinking at home, too
  • Online Shopping—we are ordering tons of stuff from Amazon, Overstock, etc.
  • Freight Carriers—someone has to bring us all that stuff we ordered
  • Local Delivery Services—companies like DoorDash and UberEats bring us that meal we DIDN’T cook at home
  • Fitness Equipment—we all thought we would work out at home
  • Game Makers—we are playing more board games and electronic games
  • Streaming Services—we are all binging our favorites on Netflex
  • Home Improvement Companies, Remodelers, Decorators, Etc.—if we are going to be home, it needs to look good and function well
  • Landscaping Companies and Plant Nurseries—same as above, plus we are actually home to meet the landscaper
  • Safety Providers and Biotech Firms—we and our first responder friends are buying sanitizer and personal protective equipment
  • Real Estate Agents—in many markets, we are still buying and selling homes
  • Pet Products—we all adopted pets during Covid, and Fido needs food and toys
  • Work-From-Home Providers—sure Zoom is doing well, but so are the tech support groups that help us plug in from the house
  • Storage Companies—as we downsize or clean out, we have to put it somewhere

Some companies are doing well out there.  Hopefully, they are willing to share.
